Slaves had many reasons to escape, but still many decided not to. Why was escape a difficult decision to make for slaves?

If you got caught when you were trying to escape, you'd get an terrible punishment. Because many slaves who were trying to escape got caught, it was an easy desicion of staying and not escaping.

Because when they tried to escape from the plantations and they failed then there were strange punishments for them and because of this many slaves decided easily to stay at the plantations.

Most slaves were mostly too weak to escape, they probably wouldn't last long if they did. Another reason is the bad consequenses if they got caught, terrible punishments. I also think that it was hard to leave their beloved ones in the slave group.

I think that most of the slaves were too afraid for the punishments and I think that they also didn't want to let the other slaves down.

I think that a lot of slaves were afraid of what would happen, if they got caught. also, I think that they used family to blackmail them, so they wouldn't escape.

The opportunity was too large to be caught and be punished even more

I think many of them were really afraid of being caught, which is totally understand. And i think they had hope that they would see their family again
